Comments:

• The draw used ball set 7 in the Guinevere machine and the average main Lotto prize was £24.13. One in every 53.6 main Lotto tickets won a prize (=1.86% of players).
• If all 13,983,816 ticket combinations were additionally purchased for the main Lotto game, they would have made a loss of £9,163,453.
• The prior history of the main Lotto jackpot ticket included one win of £10.
• The number 46 has now failed to appear as one of the winning seven balls for 34 consecutive draws, which is the joint third longest such absence ever.
• I matched one number on my first ticket and two on my second (with a third number one out on the latter), which resulted in another agonisingly close near miss.
• £1,173,148 of unclaimed prizes (2.90% of the total prize pool of this week's Wednesday and Saturday draws) from this week expired at 11.00pm GMT on Thursday 29th January 1998 and have been added to the National Lottery Distribution Fund.
