Comments:

• The draw used ball set 8 in the Arthur machine and the average main Lotto prize was £23.70. One in every 52.8 main Lotto tickets won a prize (=1.90% of players).
• If all 13,983,816 ticket combinations were additionally purchased for the main Lotto game, they would have made a loss of £8,595,022.
• The prior history of the main Lotto jackpot ticket included 2 wins totalling £20.
• The numbers 15 and 20 were both the rarest main numbers prior to this draw and both made their 14th appearance today, moving them up to join the number 39 at the bottom of the frequency table.
• The number 15 finally appeared as one of the main six balls, bringing an end to its all-time record sequence of 65 consecutive lotteries without being drawn. The new current record holder is now the main number 46, which hasn't appeared for 32 consecutive draws.
• Eight ticket combinations have now won 14 prizes since the lottery began.
• I predictably matched nothing on either of my two tickets as I resigned myself to yet another loss.
• £1,143,860 of unclaimed prizes (2.86% of the total prize pool of this week's Wednesday and Saturday draws) from this week expired at 11.00pm GMT on Thursday 22nd January 1998 and have been added to the National Lottery Distribution Fund.
