Comments:
- The draw used ball set 10 in the Guinevere machine and the average main Lotto prize was £21.80.
One in every 42.7 main Lotto tickets won a prize (=2.34% of players).
- This was the 13th Super Draw and the jackpot pool was a guaranteed £5,000,000.
- If all 13,983,816 ticket combinations were additionally purchased for the main Lotto game, they would have made a loss of £8,508,523.
- The prior history of the main Lotto jackpot ticket included 5 wins totalling £50.
- The number 44 has now appeared 33 times as a
main number
(a lead of 5) and 37 times as a
winning number
(a lead of 3).
- The number 20 has become the first one to
appear seven times
as a bonus number since the lottery began.
- The 1000th main ball was drawn during this lottery.
- This was the first draw to use ball set 10, which meant I had
to adjust my program code :-) Ball set 9 has yet to be used of
course.
- I matched one number on my first ticket, two numbers on my
second ticket, but nothing on my third or fourth tickets to continue
my depressingly long losing sequence.
- A 5+bonus prize of £60,139 won by a ticket bought in the Merseyside area expired and was added to the Good Causes fund.
- Unclaimed prizes from this draw expired at 11.00pm GMT on Monday 26th January 1998 and have been added to the National Lottery Distribution Fund.
