Comments:

• The draw used ball set 7 in the Arthur machine and the average main Lotto prize was £24.37. One in every 54.3 main Lotto tickets won a prize (=1.84% of players).
• If all 13,983,816 ticket combinations were additionally purchased for the main Lotto game, they would have made a loss of £8,106,904.
• The prior history of the main Lotto jackpot ticket included no wins.
• The number 44 has moved into outright first place in the main number frequency table by appearing for the 29th time. It also joins the numbers 5 and 25 at the top of the winning number frequency table with its 33rd appearance.
• This draw included the 100th ticket in 1997 to win at least £1 million and we could be in for a record number of such tickets this year (mainly thanks to the midweek draw).
• This was a record 21st consecutive Saturday draw where there was at least one jackpot winner.
• One match on my first ticket and none on my second predictably increased my losses by another £2.
• £1,097,895 of unclaimed prizes (2.75% of the total prize pool of this week's Wednesday and Saturday draws) from this week expired at 11.00pm GMT on Thursday 18th December 1997 and have been added to the National Lottery Distribution Fund.
