Comments:

• The draw used ball set 4 in the Merlin machine and the average main Lotto prize was £23.47. One in every 45.0 main Lotto tickets won a prize (=2.22% of players).
• If all 13,983,816 ticket combinations were additionally purchased for the main Lotto game, they would have made a loss of £9,838,727.
• The prior history of the main Lotto jackpot ticket included 6 wins totalling £60.
• The number 44 is now the outright leader of the main number frequency table after appearing as such for the 43rd time.
• The triple 33, 42, 44 has become only the second triple to have been drawn as either a main number triple 4 times or as a winning number triple 5 times since the lottery began.
• The lottery machine Merlin was used in a draw for the first time, which means that there are now four lottery machines. Before you complain, it wasn't Merlin in the first ever draw - it was actually Guinevere.
• This was the first time that three consecutive Saturday draws have been "non-normal" (i.e. a Super Draw or a rollover).

• A jackpot prize of £1,014,313 won by a ticket bought in the County Down area expired and was added to the Good Causes fund.
• £2,198,684 of unclaimed prizes (5.40% of the total prize pool of this week's Wednesday and Saturday draws) from this week expired at 11.00pm GMT on Thursday 14th January 1999 and have been added to the National Lottery Distribution Fund.
