Comments:

• The draw used ball set 4 in the Guinevere machine and the average main Lotto prize was £23.47. One in every 52.2 main Lotto tickets won a prize (=1.91% of players).
• If all 13,983,816 ticket combinations were additionally purchased for the main Lotto game, they would have made a loss of £10,067,652.
• The prior history of the main Lotto jackpot ticket included 9 wins totalling £150.
• This has to be one of the freakiest draws on record, possibly because 3 of the 7 numbers from the previous draw also appeared in this one, which seems to have triggered off some bizarre results in the top two prize tiers:
  • The number of jackpot winners was the third highest ever.
  • The number of jackpot winners exceeded the number of 5+bonus winners for only the second time since the lottery began.
  • Even more astonishingly, the above two freak events combined to result in the unique sight of a 5+bonus prize that was higher (by £13,530 = 8.8%) than the jackpot prize !
• Ticket sales crashed to their lowest level for over 4.5 years - since the third draw in fact.
• It was Whitewash City for me as I failed to match a single number on either of my two tickets.
• Unclaimed prizes from this week expired at 11.00pm GMT on Thursday 23rd December 1999 and have been added to the National Lottery Distribution Fund.
