Comments:

• The draw used ball set 4 in the Merlin machine and the average main Lotto prize was £21.14. One in every 40.9 main Lotto tickets won a prize (=2.44% of players).
• If all 13,983,816 ticket combinations were additionally purchased for the main Lotto game, they would have made a loss of £9,853,451.
• The prior history of the main Lotto jackpot ticket included 11 wins totalling £175.
• The number 38 continues to extend its already impressive lead to 12 (after its 96th main number appearance and 11 (following its 112th winning number appearance) in the respective frequency tables.
• I matched nothing on my first and fourth tickets and one number on each of my second and third tickets, so despite not living in the West Midlands (which had over 11,000 dead lottery terminals today), I still didn't win in this rollover draw.
• Unclaimed prizes from this week expired at 11.00pm GMT on Thursday 10th January 2002 and have been added to the National Lottery Distribution Fund.
