Comments:
- The draw used ball set 4 in the Guinevere machine and the average main Lotto prize was £18.75.
One in every 63.8 main Lotto tickets won a prize (=1.57% of players).
- If all 13,983,816 ticket combinations were additionally purchased for the main Lotto game, they would have made a profit of £13,723,583.
- The prior history of the main Lotto jackpot ticket included one win of £10.
- The 59th draw, the 10th to have a (record £11.7m) rollover,
generated record ticket sales (the first time in excess of 78 million).
- This is the first time a jackpot hasn't been won for two consecutive draws,
creating a double rollover for
next week's draw. The record rollover, a massive
£24m, would have been the largest ever jackpot prize pool if it had been
won this week.
- This was the second consecutive draw where the 5-match
prize exceeded £4,000,
which has never happened before.
- After failing to appear for exactly a year (52 consecutive draws),
the number 39 finally surfaced for only the second time ever, but it's still
anchored to the bottom of the
main and
winning
number frequency tables. This means that the number 13,
not having appeared for 31 draws, is the new
last appearance
record holder.
- Scratchcard sales died completely this
week, dropping by a record amount (nearly £6m) and percentage (first time
they've fallen by more than 20%). Scratchcard sales were never to recover
to their prior levels after this body blow, which was due to the Christmas
break of course.
- Combined sales for a rollover failed to
reach £100m for the first time since scratchcards were introduced
some 9 months ago.
- Camelot told the UK media (and me via their lottery phone line)
that the total prize pool was £47,009,542, which isn't correct because
that includes the jackpot that wasn't won.
- Going out in the freezing cold and buying
that second ticket for the rollover paid off this week as I matched three
numbers with it and won my second-ever £10 ! It's weird that I went for
more than a year without a win and then I've managed to win twice in the space
of 5 weeks. Oh, the subscription ticket managed to match one number.
- £950,255 of unclaimed prizes (4.12% of the total prize pool) from this week expired at 11.00pm BST on Thursday 27th June 1996 and have been added to the National Lottery Distribution Fund.
