The draw used ball set 4 in the Arthur machine and the average main Lotto prize was £34.77. One in every 61.0 main Lotto tickets won a prize (=1.64% of players).

If all 13,983,816 ticket combinations were additionally purchased for the main Lotto game, they would have made a loss of £123,587.

The prior history of the main Lotto jackpot ticket included no wins.

This was the second largest jackpot won by a single ticket, although the 6 members of the Benson family played as a syndicate and will share the jackpot amongst themselves (£10m for the parents and the rest split amongst the 4 sons and daughters). Sadly, thieves burgled their family home in Hull on Monday night whilst they were collecting their jackpot prize, although the police had managed to return some of the stolen property by Wednesday. One wonders if this will discourage future jackpot winners from going public...

The main balls were very low indeed, although only an obscure lowest record was set for the 2nd ball in sorted order, mainly because the freak Lottery #5 still holds mosts of the "lowest" records.

The "worst" number is now 39 - it's only appeared once and that was a mammoth 28 draws ago !

Only one match for me this week and that was on my second ticket too.

£690,702 of unclaimed prizes (1.65% of the total prize pool) from this week expired at 11.00pm GMT on Thursday 4th January 1996 and have been added to the National Lottery Distribution Fund.
