Comments:

• The draw used ball set 6 in the Arthur machine and the average main Lotto prize was £24.80. One in every 55.2 main Lotto tickets won a prize (=1.81% of players).
• If all 13,983,816 ticket combinations were additionally purchased for the main Lotto game, they would have made a loss of £9,546,168.
• The prior history of the main Lotto jackpot ticket included 10 wins totalling £100. This is only the second time that a jackpot ticket has won 10 prizes in prior draws.
• The number 16 finally appeared as a winning number for the first time in 32 draws, handling over that longest absentee mantle to the number 39 (23 draws since it last appeared as a winning number).
• I matched nothing on my first ticket and one number on my second ticket, so the final draw of my third annual subscription came up empty-handed.
• £974,482 of unclaimed prizes (2.39% of the total prize pool of this week's Wednesday and Saturday draws) from this week expired at 11.00pm BST on Thursday 20th August 1998 and have been added to the National Lottery Distribution Fund.
