Comments:
- The draw used ball set 5 in the Guinevere machine and the average main Lotto prize was £31.82.
One in every 56.0 main Lotto tickets won a prize (=1.78% of players).
- This was the 3rd Super Draw and the jackpot pool was topped-up by £9,900,000.
- If all 13,983,816 ticket combinations were additionally purchased for the main Lotto game, they would have made a loss of £5,828,327.
- The prior history of the main Lotto jackpot ticket included one win of £10.
- This Super Draw celebrated the second anniversary of the lottery,
although the lottery terminal network crashed at 3pm on Saturday and remained
unavailable for 40 minutes :-(
This subsequently delayed the release of full
unconfirmed results by Camelot until Sunday morning.
- The number 5 has now closed to within one of the number
44 at the top of the winning number frequency
table with its 23rd appearance.
- At the other end of that table, the number 39 is even more
desperately stranded at the bottom with the 10th appearance of the number
37 widening the gap to three.
- The ticket
with the numbers 5, 14, 18, 25, 37 and 44 is the now currently
the only one to have
won 13 prizes in the history of the lottery.
- Remarkably, the main number
range (41=42-1) has been the same for the
latest three draws, which has never happened before.
- If double rollovers are ignored, this draw had the second highest
total prize pool.
- For a Super Draw only, the following records were set:
- Most number of
winners
of the total, jackpot and 3-match categories.
- Least number of winners of the 4-match category.
- The highest
average individual prize.
- The largest prize pools in all categories.
- Lucky Dip sales yet again hit a new
all-time record level (first time over £14m) and a record percentage of
ticket sales.
- During their complete redesign launched on this draw date coincidentally,
BBC teletext created two new lottery pages, 555 and 556, on both BBC 1 and
BBC 2, meaning that BBC 1 teletext finally has dedicated lottery
pages, only 2 years after the draw began [which BBC 1 televises live] and
2 years after ITV started their dedicated teletext lottery page. Page 555
carries the latest 7 sets of winning numbers, whilst Page 556 is a news
section. The two teletext page numbers were displayed for the first time
below the winning balls at the end of the BBC 1 lottery
TV show. Sadly, sub-page 2 of BBC 1 teletext page
555 incorrectly stated that there's "70,000" 4-match winners, which is silly
when they correctly stated the exact numbers of winners and prizes of all
of the other categories !
- The discrepancy in the jackpot prize pool I originally reported was
confirmed - it was a £9.9m top-up, not a £10m top-up that
was widely reported by Camelot and the press.
- £899,204 of unclaimed prizes (1.89% of the total prize pool) from this week expired at 11.00pm BST on Thursday 15th May 1997 and have been added to the National Lottery Distribution Fund.
Next Lottery: #106 (Saturday 23rd November 1996) [1 jackpot winner]
