Comments:

The draw used ball set 2 in the Lancelot machine and the average main Lotto prize was £25.43. One in every 49.8 main Lotto tickets won a prize (=2.01% of players).

If all 13,983,816 ticket combinations were additionally purchased for the main Lotto game, they would have made a loss of £4,618,798.

The prior history of the main Lotto jackpot ticket included 4 wins totalling £40.

The pink balls really outdid themselves this time - it was the first time that 5 out of the 7 balls were the same colour, only the second winning number quad (four consecutive balls: 23 to 26) in the history of the lottery and only the second time ever that four winning numbers had all appeared in the same playslip row.

The 30th appearance of the winning number 25 has brought it not only into outright second place in the frequency table, but also to within two of the current leader, the number 5.

The number 24 joins 5 and 45 at the top of the bonus number frequency table by appearing as a bonus number for the sixth time.

The winning number 26 had its run of 33 consecutive draws without appearing as one of the seven balls stopped dead today (the outright third longest such absence ever). The new crown for the longest current winning number absentee goes to the number 30, which has, ironically, failed to appear for 30 consecutive draws now.

Although this draw had the highest jackpot prize for over 16 months, it also had the second lowest ticket sales for a rollover draw ever.

I only matched one number (on my third ticket) across all four of my tickets, which is highly depressing to say the least !

£1,078,052 of unclaimed prizes (2.71% of the total prize pool of this week's Wednesday and Saturday draws) from this week expired at 11.00pm GMT on Thursday 20th November 1997 and have been added to the National Lottery Distribution Fund.
